Recommended wedding venue - Stockwith Mill in the Lincolnshire Wolds

I thought I’d write a quick recommendation for a wonderful wedding venue I visited in 2023. If you love relaxed, non pretentious, outdoorsy vibes then I’d love to recommend the fabulous Stockwith Mill in Lincolnshire. Stockwith Mill is a fairly new family run wedding venue in the Lincolnshire Wolds, close to the village of Hagworthingham. I was lucky enough to photograph a lovely wedding there in September and fell in love as soon as I arrived!

I was greeted by Nichola, the wedding celebrant conducting Sam & Carl’s wedding and Kristi the owner. I felt like I’d met Nichola already as she’d been in touch prior to the wedding to say hello, which was really lovely. As a photographer I always feel valued when venues and suppliers are warm and welcoming to me and other suppliers, as well as the wedding guests. Stockwith Mill are licensed for official ceremonies, so you have the option to book registrars in to do the legal part in front of your guests, or to have a celebrant for a more personalised ceremony (and do the legal part separately).

Sam & Carl got married outdoors in the sunshine, it was a really lovely relaxing atmosphere bring amongst the tall grass, wildflowers and dandelions (I love dandelions and actually dried out dandelions for my own wedding flowers so I love seeing them). This area of wildflowers made for a stunning spot for some sunset photos of Sam & Carl later on in the evening - we were lucky to have a beautiful sunset this day and the surroundings were perfect for the occasion.

‘The Stables’ room was laid out for guests to sit and looked stunning, it was a warm day so naturally everyone wanted to be outside so we headed out for the speeches. There’s something really special about being outdoors during speeches, it feels much more informal and everyone can enjoy and sit where they like, without feeling like someone else’s eyes are in the back of their head. The Stables is suitable for up to 48 guests, but as far as I’m aware you can have larger weddings there with a marquee outdoors. There’s a large amount of outdoor space so plenty of room for a marquee if you have a large guest list.

Apart from it being a fantastic all round wedding venue Stockwith Mill are focused on sustainability and have reclaimed and repurposed all sorts for their decor, from the floor tiles and lights in the bar, the bar tables etc. The bar top was even made from a local felled tree. I think it’s so important to support venues that are eco conscious, with all the weddings that are happening around the world every week, each decision we make can make a difference (Sam’s stunning dress was also secondhand which is a great way to reduce your wedding footprint - and get a bargain!).

So far I’ve just photographed the one wedding at Stockwith Mill, but I’d love to return for more weddings.

I’ll be at their open day on May 12th, which I’m very much looking forward to. Come and say hello! If you’re lucky enough to be one of the first 25 in the door you’ll get a goody bag full of gifts that each of the suppliers has contributed to.

Here are some pics from Sam & Carl’s day, with a focus on shots that show the venue.
