Documentary wedding photography - forget the stuffy posing

Your wedding is real life - it isn’t a social media post

If you’d like great memories in your wedding photographs and want to have an amazing wedding day without staging and posing all day, hire a documentary wedding photographer!

Forget what you’ve seen on Instagram and Tik Tok and ignore what people say are ‘must have’ photos. People put so much pressure on themselves to have certain trendy photos and it comes at a price - the enjoyment your wedding day. I won’t ask you to pretend to apply your lipstick for a staged photo, make you do weird, trendy things for photos. I won’t boss you and your wedding guests around. These wouldn’t be real memories and will hold less value to you in the future. It’s your memories I want to capture for you. Not only will you get real memories that will evoke nostalgia in the future, but it means you can get on with enjoying the day you’ve put so much time and effort into planning.

Aside from the odd gentle prompt during the couples photos, everything you see in these photos is real. They are all real moments. My main concentration is taking candid photographs throughout the day, where other photographers might take breaks in between key moments (I’m not saying that’s a bad thing if that works for them and their clients, it’s just where I differ). The only time I’ll really put my cameras down is whilst you eat during your meal (usually) - if it’s a casual street food wedding where everyone is mingling and eating then I’ll definitely keep my camera out. I don’t even like to go to the loo without a camera, in case something fun happens on the way. Wherever there are moments happening, I’ll be around somewhere looking out for them.

You’ll get photos like these…

And photos like these…

But fear not! You’ll still get all of the key moments covered, the ceremony, confetti, speeches and all of the key points throughout the day. Photos like these…

And photos of the two of you, like these…

But forget the stuffy posing and putting pressure on yourself to have Instagram worthy wedding photos. Your wedding is real! Let’s document it!

Disclaimer - I am still more than happy to do some family group photographs for you, should you wish to - I realise these are still an important part of wedding photography as parents and older generations tend to love having them, but I do recommend keeping these to a minimum so you can enjoy your day fully and not have your photographer interfere with the flow of the day. The fewer group shots, the better time you’ll have and better documentary wedding photos you’ll get (trust me!). I actually think group shots will become obsolete one day, but for now they’re here and I’m happy to do them still, despite my banging on about how much better documentary wedding photography is!

And I had to share some party shots for good measure.

All the shots on this page were taken during the 2024 wedding season so far, I can’t wait to see what else is in store this year!
