The best wedding venues in and around Lincolnshire (in my opinion!)
I have complied a list of my favourite wedding venues in and around Lincolnshire. The six venues listed below are my favourites that I’ve photographed at (so far!) and are the type of venue that I feel bring out the best in my photography style. I love open spaces and weddings that involve being outdoors or with the feel of outdoors in a marquee/tipi and ‘DIY’ weddings where the couple can put their own personal stamp on things.
Many of the images displayed below were taken whilst working as half of Lincolnshire Wedding Duo (some are as old as 2014). Therefore I have re-edited the images to match my current editing style. This shows an honest representation of my work and the style of photography you would receive when booking me as your wedding photographer.
The Glasshouse, Clumber Park - Nottinghamshire
Clumber Park Glasshouse is an absolutely stunning place to get married. The ceremony takes place inside a conservatory (The Glasshouse) brimming with plants and flowers. The wedding in the photographs below was in October 2019 on a perfectly cloudy day (us photographers love clouds and would often choose a cloudy day over a sunny one any day!). You have your own garden to mingle with your guests and there are unlimited beautiful spots to do your couple shots, even just around the Glasshouse itself, you don’t need to venture far!
I believe there are a few different locations you can get married at within Clumber Park so make sure you choose the Glasshouse if you like the look within these images.
These images are from Donna & Garry’s wedding in October 2019.
Moot Hall - Holten-le-Moor, Lincolnshire
I loved Moot Hall for being an amazing blank canvas so you can do exactly as you please if you’d prefer a DIY wedding. Ideal for couples on a budget or if you know exactly what you want and prefer to design your own wedding decor.
These images are from two different weddings, the first January 2014 and the second July 2017. I don’t think you can legally get married at this venue as both of these weddings had outdoor mock ceremonies, so the couples both got officially married earlier at a registry office but then had a mock ceremony for all their friends and family to attend. The winter wedding shows you can still have an outdoor ceremony in the winter, just bring blankets for your guests to snuggle up in!
As well as the vast outdoor space a big bonus for me is having a mezzanine inside. This means I can get a different angle for photographing the speeches and the party. I love to be able to look down from above and capture things from another angle as well as from the ground floor.
Here are a few from Jen & Pat’s January 2014 wedding and Chloe & Will’s July 2017 day.
The White Heather, Lincoln, Lincolnshire
The thing I loved the most about photographing at The White Heather was the spacious bridal suite that the bride and her bridesmaids had to get ready in before the ceremony. It was oozing natural light through the large windows and the spaciousness is ideal if you have a large bridal party. A large space can ease the morning stress by not having everybody crammed in and people can get ready in different rooms, should they wish. It also meant plenty of options for me to photograph the beautiful dress in all it’s glory.
The room that the ceremonies are held in is also generous on natural light as it has a skylight which lights up the room beautifully. The reception is held in a marquee, which is wonderful for natural light on a summer’s evening.
These are from Zoe & John’s June 2019 wedding day.
The White Heather
Stainton Manor Farm - Stainton, Lincolnshire
At Stainton Manor Farm there is plenty of outdoor space for guests to mingle and inside is made up of one large room and other interlinked smaller rooms, perfect if you have a lot of guests as there’s plenty of room for everybody to hang out. It also has a really cosy feel inside with the warm exposed bricks.
These images are from Vicki & Alex’s August 2017 wedding. I’ve included a few from their ceremony at St Hugh’s Church too, which is one of my favourite churches to photograph in, I love the blue that falls behind the marrying couple. I believe you can now marry at Stainton Manor Farm itself so there’s no need to have your ceremony at a separate location if you’d prefer to keep everything at the same locations. I couldn’t resist including a few morning shots too from Vicki’s parent’s house.
The Old Vicarage at Elkesley, Retford, Nottinghamshire
Have I mentioned that I love outdoor weddings?
These photographs are from Elle & Kanny’s September 2016 wedding. They both got ready at the Best Western Hotel in Retford, which was convenient as they could both be at the same location, with many of the guests also present, but separate from eachother. The boys were in the main building and the girls were in rooms not attached to the hotel.
Their ceremony was outdoors in the beautiful grounds of the Old Vicarage with a marquee for the evening reception. I believe there is now a cosy cave bar and camping/glamping available too.
Apologies for the overshare of the dress & shoes, I adored Elle’s pink tinted wedding dress and Irregular Choice shoes so they pretty much had a whole photoshoot of their own.
Scrivelsby Walled Garden - Lincolnshire
Scrivelsby Walled Garden is a beautiful walled garden (as you’d expect from the name!) with a tipi setup in the garden. You have exclusive use of the grounds, as well as camping being available in the small field just outside the walls, making it feel like your own private festival, perfect for large wedding receptions. An added bonus is you can wed in the church next door, so you can literally walk across to the reception straight from the church. There were even fairground rides within the garden at this wedding.
These images are from Becca and Jon’s August 2017 wedding.
(Please note that these are the originals and not re-edits).
The venue you choose for your wedding day will have some influence on the outcome of your wedding photographs. If you’ve seen images you love that were taken at an outdoor wedding, for example, the results will slightly vary from those taken by the same photographer at an indoor hotel or church wedding. I do always use the same editing style within my wedding edits to be consistent, however the lighting plays a huge part in the way photographs turn out and this is something you cannot have much control over during a wedding ceremony or when shooting documentary wedding photography.
Here are examples of a few different venues that I shot at in 2019 with varying available light to show examples of my work at different wedding venues. The first image is from Tattershall Castle, the second Washingborough Hall Hotel, the third The Bacchus Hotel, Sutton on Sea and the fourth Nocton Church.
I love photographing at different wedding venues and creating different imagery for everybody, whether indoors or outdoors, castle, church or barn.
